Membership Websites – Low Cost Methods to Promote Your Membership Website
Unfortunately most business owners do not have an unlimited budget to promote their business. While the title says these are low cost methods to promote you membership website, truth be told they will work for any online business. There are some free methods to promote your business and I will start with those.
Press Release: You can Google free press release and find some free press release services. You may have already been aware of these services so the question is do you know when to use them. The answer depends on where you are in your business development. Just off the top of my head, you should do a press release about a new product or service whenever you create an opt-in page, when you host an event like a teleseminars or webinars, and if you host an event like a blog challenge. The free press releases are be indexed by the search engines. When you reach the point you are doing press releases consistently and you feel comfortable doing them, you should move to a paid service. You are much more likely to be contacted by a member of the media if you use a paid press release service.
Make Yourself News Worthy: About.com ran an article called Low-Budget High-Impact Marketing Plan by Darrell Zahorsky. According to Darrell, “A mention of your company in the right media can help deliver your marketing message in a low cost manner. My local plumber has mastered the art of self-promotion. When a child’s red wagon was stolen, “Pete The Plumber” showed up in his Super-Hero painted van to bring a brand new wagon to the child. It was a good deed; resulting in plenty of media talk.”
Testimonies: Don’t ignore the power of testimonies. The best way to get testimonies is to ask. Whenever I give a testimony, I try and help out by adding this statement to my testimony. “I certified I was not provided with any financial or any other type of incentive for this testimony. My testimony is true based on my experience with the product/service name.”
Referrals from Your Customers: You may offer your satisfied customers an incentive for telling their story to others about your product or service. This could be in the form of a discount for a future purchase, a freebie, or you may want to consider offering an affiliate program. Obviously, you don’t want to use the testimonies of anyone who received an incentive to promote your product or service.
Facebook: You would probably be better off spending your advertising budget on Facebook than Google. While you may think that is preposterous, let me point out a couple of things. I have read the Facebook is growing every day and it’s traffic is approaching Google’s. Even if this is an exaggeration, when you advertise on Facebook, you don’t have to worry about the Google slap – when they close your account without any explanation. And while it may take some practice or training, Facebook offers you the ability to laser target your market.
You’ve probably heard you need to get your marketing message in front of your customer at least 7 times to get them to take action. These low cost marketing methods will help you do that whether you operate a membership site or any other type of online business.
